Kids Crane Fest Returns October 10 at the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge
Celebrate National Refuge Week with a day of family-friendly fun at the 2026 Kids Crane Fest, happening Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters.
Families can spend the day exploring the refuge while enjoying games, music, wildlife-themed activities and plenty of opportunities to get outside. Kids can meet Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl and Pedro the Penguin beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a performance from Shumei HIKARI Taiko Drummers at 11 a.m. and live music by Fred Hargrove from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
All-day activities will include a scavenger hunt, fishing game for little ones, nature bingo, nature trivia, prizes and an archery range hosted by Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Families are also encouraged to bring their bikes and ride the refuge loop.
And come hungry — a free hot dog lunch will be served during the event.
Kids Crane Fest is really about giving families an easy, fun reason to spend time together outdoors. Come for the activities, stay for the music, explore the refuge and enjoy a day with neighbors, friends and wildlife. We hope you’ll join us.
